Donald J. Cacciatore, 60 years old passed away suddenly September 2, 2008 at home.
Born and raised in Chester to the late Joseph and Eloise Jester Cacciatore, Don resided in Linwood section of Lower Chichester for the past 10 years previously residing in Trainer and Chester. Don joined the Trainer Fire Co at the age of 15 and started a lifelong career in the fire service, both volunteer and professional for a total of 46 years.
Don was employed by Sealy Mattress and as a fireman at the Elsmere VA Hospital in Elsmere DE, and was also employed by the Trainer Public Works Department. He was also employed as a fireman and Foreman with the Felton Fire Co, in Chester, where he was employed as a driver on the Tiller, in the 1970’s. He held offices in the Felton Hose & Chemical Co 47 as a Safety Officer, Past Chief of Trainer Fire Co, Safety Officer and Engineer at Lennox Park Fire Co in Trainer and for the past 10 years he has held the position of Fire Police Captain in Lower Chichester Township.
He was an avid woodworker and craftsman even though his projects didn’t always turn out the way he wanted them too. Donnie was a big collector of fire memorabilia and had a very large collection.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. Donnie took great care of his wife Ruth Ann who passed away in July of this year, and he also lost his son Jimmy Cacciatore earlier this year.
Don’s parents predeceased him as well as his sister Eloise Lobodzinski. He is survived by his son Michael Cacciatore and daughter Denise Cacciatore Coleman, and siblings Ronald Cacciatore, his twin, Donald Jester and Sharon Donnelly, also survived by 1 granddaughter and nieces and nephews.
