H. Mark Evans

July 11th, 2017

H. Mark Evans, 60, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017 at Crozer Chester Medical Center. Mark was a life-long resident of Chester, PA and was a 1974 graduate of Chester High School where he was a National High School Hall of Fame catcher on the school’s baseball team. He was a chemical operator at Sartomer Chemical Company in West Chester, PA. for 30 years, where he served as the union president for several terms.

Mark was a devoted husband to Kathleen Charlotte (Coles) Evans for 40 years. Together they served in youth, music and ushering ministries in the churches they attended. They also sang with the contemporary Christian band, Sign of the Spirit.

In 2009, following the loss of their second born child, Mark and Kathi, co-founded Touching Lives Ministry, Inc. Touching Lives is a nonprofit organization committed to providing healthcare, health education and spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ to underserved regions. At the time of Mark’s death, the Evans and Touching Lives, were working towards the building of a hospital in southwestern Kenya.

Mark’s love and devotion for the Lord was known by all. He was a part of the church family at Calvary Chapel of Delaware County where he was a member of the usher ministry. Music was an important part of Mark’s life and he was an accomplished guitarist who had a powerfully distinctive voice. He used these gifts on the Calvary Chapel worship team for several years.

To say that golf was one of Mark’s passions would be a gross understatement. Whether he was playing with his buddies or competing in the World Amateur Golf Tournament in Myrtle Beach, golf helped sustain Mark through the challenges of his disability during the last 10 years of his life. He loved to share his knowledge of golf with others and used his leadership skills to influence many of those with whom he golfed.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, Harry Roland Evans; mother, Jane Marie (Wright) Evans; grandmother, Mary Wright Redding; brother in law, Walter Collison, Sr; cousins, Linda (Collison) Travers, Bruce Collison, Michael Wombough and Nadine (Sack) Wombough.

He is survived by his wife, Kathi; son, Jason Zachary Evans; daughter-in-love, Jennifer (Pysher); grandson, Corey James Evans, aunt, Doris (Wright) Collison; aunt, Suzetta (Wright) Wombough; uncle, Herbert Wombough; uncle, Joseph Wright, Jr; aunt, Laura Wright; 4 brothers-in-law, 4 sisters-in-law; 10 cousins; 15 nieces and nephews.

A service celebrating Mark’s life will be held on July 16th at Calvary Chapel of Delaware County, 500 Brandwine Drive, Chadds Ford, PA at 2:00 PM. A time of visitation and a reception will immediately follow the service.

Flowers can be received at Calvary Chapel or donations can be made in Mark’s memory online at www.touchinglivesmissions.org.

  1. While I only really came to know Mark via golf, I considered him a golf mentor and friend. Every time I pick up my 8-iron to chip onto the green I think of him. He was insightful, courageous, and maintained an upbeat attitude and faith that for many of us would have disappeared long ago. God bless Kathi and his family and may he rest in peace. Mark, you will be missed.

  2. Mark and I went through school together, elementary through high school. We grew up in the Sun Village section of Chester, PA. My prayers are with you and all of the family. May God continue to bless you and keep you in His care.

  3. Dear Kathi and family, my heart is saddened at your loss at this time of such tragedy. Mark was your soulmate and his memory will live on in many lives. God has him in total peace now with Him. Prayers are covering you now my friend.

  4. Dear Kathi,

We will be out of town on Sunday so won’t be able to attend Mark’s service. Please know that we are praying for you as you adjust to life here without him. But how good to know that we serve a God whose name is Immanuel. And that Mark has joined that “great cloud of witnesses” watching us finish the race down here. Love to you, sister. You are a blessing to so many!

  5. Kathi, What a beautiful tribute to your loving husband. Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. Please don’t hesitate to let me know if there is anything I can do for you or your family during this difficult time. I know at times it will be hard, but I hope reflecting on the wonderful memories you and Mark shared will help you. I know that all his goodness will live through you and his main man Corey. My THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU.

  6. My God Bless you with Peace, Grace and his presence. Love you my friend. God has his arms wrapped around you and me too. I’m here if you need me. Christ Love and Mine. Doris
