Janet V. Korb – 11/22/2020

November 23rd, 2020

Janet Viola (Ranson) Korb, age 82, died peacefully in her home in Boothwyn, PA on Sunday, November 22, 2020. Janet was born on February 21, 1938 in Chester, PA to Garnett and Viola Ranson. She was the 6th of 8 children. She is preceded in death by her parents, Garnett and Viola Ranson, as well as her older brother Garnett and her older sister Jean. She is survived by her husband Donald Korb, her four daughters–Susan Hagan, Beth Suloff, Heather Musgrave, Stephanie Childers, her two older brothers—Clyde Ranson and James Ranson, her older sister Ruby Quillen, as well as her two younger brothers—Robert Ranson and David Ranson and finally twelve grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and nieces and nephews.

Janet was a young child when her family moved to their home on McCay Avenue in Boothwyn, PA. She graduated from Chichester High School in 1956 where she enjoyed playing the baritone horn in the marching band. When the Chichester Alumni & Community band was formed, she continued to play with them for 25 years following.

Janet met her husband Donald Korb at a dance at the Dover Air Force Base where he was stationed in 1960, got married July 22, 1961 and were married for 59 years. They began their family just a few houses away from her family home on McCay Avenue. She started working in 1980 as a secretary in the old school building on McCay Ave. for a brief time before transferring to the Chichester High School where she worked mostly in the guidance office for thirty-five years in total and retired in June 2016. She was loved and appreciated by the staff and faculty and the students she came in contact with. She always had candy and other treats available to anyone who needed it.

She was also a lifelong, devoted member of Restoration Presbyterian Church (formerly known as Reformed Presbyterian Church of Boothwyn). She was in the choir and later became the choir director as well as a Sunday school & VBS teacher for many years.

Janet was a loving, generous woman who loved people and singing and making music. She always encouraged her daughters and other young people to pursue making music and she always told people in church to sing the song in your heart to Lord. She also loved playing pinochle with her family as well as Rummikub and Phase 10 with her grandchildren. She loved telling jokes and making people smile. Being in the kitchen was also something she was known for. People especially enjoyed her potato salad, rice crispy treats and her mother’s chocolate cake. She would give the shirt off her back to a person who needed it and shared more than just smiles with people; she shared her love of Jesus, her Savior. It was easy to tell that her joy was found in Him. Now she is with Him in heaven face to face, singing the praises in her heart to Him.

Services will be held on Saturday November 28th at 10:30am at Restoration Presbyterian Church in Boothwyn.  Friends and family are invited to call from 9:30-10:30am in Church. and the internment will follow in Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood, PA.

  1. It is worth a praise to our Lord that gave Janet to us. The write-up is most to the point and we still know there is much more that can be said. Rita and I have been blessed to know Janet, Don and their family. Praying the great memories over-come the sorrow we have as she now does not.

  2. I enjoyed many a Thanksgiving meal at Aunt Jan’s house, FULL of family and laughter. I think I will remember her smile and laughter the most. She had the biggest heart and cared deeply about everybody she came in contact with. I love you Aunt Jan. It makes me happy to know you are rejoicing loud and strong with your Saviour. What a joy!

  3. She was the greatest person at he High school I always loved speaking with her when i was there. My prayers are with the family at this time of sorrow.

  4. This is an honest tribute. If you didn’t know Janet before you definitely do now. And she did make the best potato salad.

  5. What a beautiful tribute to a remarkable woman, my Dear Aunt Janet. She was all those things as described and had the warmest, open heart. I will remember her for her humor – she made everyone laugh and feel at ease. She believed in the good in everyone. Her family and faith were a beacon for her. We’ll miss you, however know that you are with your maker and at peace.
