Joseph E. Cassidy, Jr.

Joseph Edward Cassidy Jr (74) of Trainer Pa, passed away on August 18th, 2021 at Riddle Memorial Hospital.

Joe was born in Chester PA.
He graduated from St James High School in 1965.
After he graduated Joe joined the United States Navy so he could follow in his father’s footsteps and proudly served from 1965-1969. While serving as a Radioman 3rd Class on the USS Annapolis and the USS Coral Sea traveling to many places he receiving the following medals
– Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars
– National Defense Service Medal
– Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal
– Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon
He was honorably discharged.

Joe then went work at Wawa until he started his Welding Apprenticeship at Sun Ship he then continued his career at Phoenix Steel and SEPTA. After many years of working in all kinds of weather he went on to become a Maintenance Supervisor at SEPTA until he retired in 2009.

While working he always found time to support his children in sports and various activities from dance school, archery, baseball and many more. He coached the softball team for his daughter’s as well as sat on the Town Council for Trainer Pa.

During his retirement he enjoyed spending time with family and friends but let’s be honest he really enjoyed spending time with the lights of his world Jaclyn, Jenna and Jodi and spoiling them.. He also enjoyed camping at their place in Maryland, watching TV especially wrestling and always playing Solitaire on his phone.

We would like to thank the wonderful nursing staff at Riddle’s ICU Unit especially Erin, Lauren, Ben and Sue. Who treated Joe and his family so wonderfully and did everything they could for Joe.

Joe is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Ida Cassidy Sr and his daughter Laurie Cassidy.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Helen Cassidy of Trainer Pa, his daughter Sharyn (Joe) Novak of Maryland, his son Brian (Jennifer) Cassidy of Trainer Pa, his granddaughters and grandchildren by love Jaclyn (Chris) Novak, Jenna (Cameron) Novak, Jodi (Alystair) Novak and Natalia. His brother Robert (Michele) Cassidy of Concord Township, his sister Mary Cassidy of Upper Chichester and many Nieces and Nephews.

In lieu of flowers we know Joe would love for donations to go to Plumpton Park Zoo in Rising Sun Maryland where his granddaughter Jenna was just hired as a Zoo Keeper. Plumpton Park Zoo
He was always so proud of all 3 girls and would always do whatever he could to help them or their causes.

His funeral service will be held at Ward Funeral Home
1459 Market St Linwood Pa 19061 on Monday August 23, 2021 at 8pm
Friends and family are invited to his viewing from 6-8pm.
Burial will be private

  1. I knew Joe as a supportive father as I taught Sharyn and then Brian. Over time I became friends with dear Laurie too, though I did not teach her. I also knew Helen and became friends with her when she worked in the school district. Joe lived his wife and children with all his heart.
    He worked hard to provide for them , all the while making time to do end with all of them and their activities . He was a wonderful man and will be missed very much by so many.

  2. I cannot express the sadness over your loss. Laurie was my Bestie, and through her, I became to love you and Joe, Helen.
    My heart breaks for all of you, not just now but in the days, months, and years to come.
    Brian and Sharyn, Joe, Jenniferโ€ฆI wish that weโ€™d met before today, And your beautiful Granddaughters.

  3. i have known Joe the majority of my life growing up together our mothers Ida Cassidy and Dorothy Warder were best of friends. havnt seen Joe in many years but was in touch with the family thru facebook over the years. Memories are important to me and Joe and i were in Cub Scouts together and always had fun at the meetings and trips we took my regrets to the family cherish your memories they help to Keep Joe Alive in your hearts and mind.
