Paul Wayne Simpers, Jr. “Pappy” of Garnet Valley passed away on September 10th at Cooper University Hospital. He was born in Chester and spent his early years in Elkton, MD before moving to Trainer, PA. He was a graduate of Chichester High School with the class of 1969. He was a veteran of the US Army with whom he served during the Vietnam War stationed in Alaska. He worked at the Trainer refinery for 45 years, the last 6 of which he spent with Monroe Energy as logistics leader. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid fan of all Philadelphia sports. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, including his brothers and sisters-in-law, and their children, with whom he shared a special bond.
He is predeceased by his parents, Paul Wayne Simpers, Sr. and Violet Hickey Simpers; sisters, Edna Brown and Gail Stanford; birthmother, Almia Shellender Simpers. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sheryn Wanner Simpers; Children, Dana Searfass (Jerry), and Denise Petka (Bryan), and Paul Wayne Simpers, III; Sister, Joyce Conley; grandchildren Anthony, Luke, Ava, and Olivia; many nieces and nephews.
His funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 15th at 11am at St. Mary Magdalen Church 7 Sharpley Rd. Wilmington, DE. Friends and family are invited to call on Friday evening from 6-8pm in church and again on Saturday morning from 10-11am. Burial will follow in Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper , 2 Cooper Plaza Camden, NJ 08103 or a charity of choice.
