Rita L. Smith – 1/6/2023

Rita L. Smith, 85, formerly of Boothwyn passed away on Friday, January 6th at her home.  She was born in Chester on April 26, 1937 to the late Thomas and Mary (Fecondo) Russo.  Rita was a graduate of Chichester High School with the class of 1955.  She then went on to earn an Associates Degree from Goldie Beacom College.  Rita worked as an Administrative Assistant for Colorado Fuel and Iron.  She then went on to work for Sacred Heart Hospital and later, Riddle Hospital until her retirement.

Rita was a member of the Chichester High School Alumni Band, Milton Garden Club and the Mended Hearts organization.  She loved to spend time gardening.  She also enjoyed making crafts, reading and was an excellent cook and baker.

Rita was a beautiful, amazing woman inside and out.  She was totally devoted to her family who will miss her forever.    She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Harry W. Smith, Sr.; Children, Harry W. Smith, Jr. (Susan), Sherri Ferry (Michael), Gaetano T. Smith, Michele Smith; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Rose Rybak (Al), Tom Russo (Dottie), Lucy Russo; many nieces and nephews.  She was also loved by many others whom she met in her lifetime.

Friends and family are invited to her funeral mass on Thursday, January 12th at 10:30am at Immaculate Conception Church 21 W. 8th St. Marcus Hook, Pa. Burial will be private.

  1. Rita was a wonderful, caring woman who went out of her way to help others. I worked with her for many years at Riddle Hospital where her pleasant smile greeted me each morning. RIP dear Rita. My condolences to Wally and her family.

  6. Rita my dear sister was such a beautiful person inside and out. Her family and her life is a testimony of her love and grace. It was an honor for me to be her brother. I was of course always her favorite brother, could it have been because I was her only brother? My prayers and a part of my heart will go with you always. We pray that God’s Pease be with Wally and that all the family will have the peace that passes all understanding through Christ and his Holy Spirit.
