Edna Mary Mielcarek, 89, of Twin Oaks, Pa. passed away peacefully on December 26, 2019. Edna was the former floral shop owner of Mielcarek’s Flower Shoppe in Boothwyn, Pa. where she worked alongside her husband and children for more than 40 years.

Born on November 6, 1930 in Sacksville,( Wallingford), Pa., she was the youngest daughter to Knot Kostyk and Mary (Plachetko) Kostyk.

Edna graduated from Our Lady of Peace School in Woodlyn, Pa. and attended Notre Dame High School in Moylan. She loved playing softball with her friends from Milmont Park.

Edna worked for Art Craft and at her husband’s cut-up poultry business in Chester before going to work at Franklin Mint for 10 years as a lead solder designer.

She met her “million-dollar baby” husband, Thomas J. Mielcarek, at Silver’s 5 & 10 in Chester, Pa. They wedded in May of 1950 and were married for 49 years.

Edna was a founding member of St. John Fisher Catholic Church in Boothwyn, Pa.

She thanks the doctors and staff workers in the oncology departments at Brinton Lake and Crozer, who allowed her to enjoy her loved ones through the final years of her life.

Edna is predeceased by her husband, Thomas J. Mielcarek; daughter, Susan Campbell; and son-in-law, Donald W. Tees. She joins her late brothers & sisters, Joseph, Nicholas, Mike, John, and Walter; Mary, Rose Walter, Kate Guzek, Sophie Rest, Olga Riper, Anne Kowall, and Helen Hagan.

Edna is survived by her daughters: Patricia Batog and her husband, Joseph, and Maria Plucker & Janice Tees, her son, Thomas J. Mielcarek Jr. and her son-in-law: Brian Campbell; 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Her funeral mass will be held on Thursday, January 2nd at 10;30am at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 4225 Chichester Avenue, Boothwyn, Pa. 19061. Friends and family are invited to call from 9-10:30am in church.  Burial will follow in Lawn Croft Cemetery.  Online condolences can be sent through www.jwardfuneralhome.com.

  2. My deepest heartfelt sympathy to all the family. Your Mother was a very kind, always Happy person. I remember all the fun we had playing at the Mielcarek’s house as kids and all the candy and cake your Mother always shared with us.
